About us

About me.

Previous to setting up my own bookkeeping business I worked as an accountant in a local accountancy practice for over nine years. Starting in practice straight after completing my degree at Bournemouth University in Accounting and Finance in 2006 I began as an accounts trainee. I then moved on to performing audits, gained my ACCA qualification, before becoming a manager back in the accounts department where it all began. During this time I have completed statutory accounts for a wide variety of Limited Companies, Sole Traders, Partnerships and Charities.

Some of you may be wondering why a qualified accountant who has spent many, many years and a lot of sweat and tears training would suddenly want to move into bookkeeping, which can technically be done by anyone. Apart from the lack of good bookkeepers out there (as described in detail below) in December 2014 I welcomed into the world my beautiful daughter, Jessica, my second child. The new need to work mostly from home gave me the push I needed to set up my own business. So please feel free to take advantage of my need to work as well as raise a family and bag yourself the work of a qualified accountant to do your all bookkeeping!

My Motivation.

Over the years I've seen all sorts of 'bookkeeping'. From just a pile of invoices to meticulously kept day books and ledgers which I have used to then produce a set of accounts. However, one of the most disturbing things I regularly came across was always the sheer volume of records that came in from firms who had bookkeepers that still needed so much adjusting and were often full of errors. Whether they were just incomplete of completely wrong it always worried me that any person could call themselves a bookkeeper and think that bookkeeping was just as simple as processing a few invoices.

Looking at what goes in is only half the job, so few bookkeepers look at the reports that came out the other side. As a result banks were often unreconciled or sales and purchase ledges were often left with old invoices sitting on them for eternity. To add, the VAT and PAYE controls were often not reconciled meaning incorrect amounts were paid over, some of which were quite material.

Whether it was back when I was training and I had to check a whole years bank statements or in my more senior role, when I was used to untangle the more complicated errors, the problems of incomplete books never seemed to go away. This soon made me realise how few and far between good bookkeepers are and that I could offer something many businesses really need.

Then I often came across the businesses that try to master the books at the same time as running a business. Particularly in more recent economic climates, running a successful business is an art form in itself. Even with all the best intentions, getting everything in the right order isn't easy if it's not where your expertise lies. All too often I've seen the frustration as business owners just don't have the time to be pernickety over the little adjustments that don't seem to mean much to them but from an accounts point of view are important.

My love of numbers and problem solving have lead me to a job that I thoroughly enjoy and can really get my teeth stuck into!

Why you need me.

Whether you need a little or a lot of my time I can provide the services you need. With this you also get the peace of mind that the information produced is both accurate and will not leave you having the dreaded conversation with your accountant about how much they're going to bill you for sorting out somebody else's mess (I've witnessed this many times - it's never pleasant!).

Even if you've never kept accurate or up to date records in the past, with my help going forward, even the most basic reports can help with strategic planning and forecasting going forward.
